I agree that the show is about Ted Lasso, the American optimist, making his way in England. So why not remove the dad card altogether and just have him be childless? I think that's the mistake the writers made in the first place, as his absentee "Dad" self is so at odds with the father-figure he is so adept at being with the players on AFC Richmond. I do agree that most American dads are presented as "bumbling" dummies, and I always applaud any effort in the other direction.
