I wholly agree with much of what you argue. As I pointed out, Ted was hoping for a reconciliation with Michelle and wanted the two to join him in London. I'd be more willing to accept his continued presence away from Henry if we saw some indication that his separation was really getting to him. But even when he feels a panic attack coming on after Henry leaves, just a few quick breathing maneuvers, and voila -- Ted's a-okay. Having recently spent a few days away from my own son, I cannot imagine weeks/months between visits. Just doesn't feel true at all for a loving dad to bee-bop through most days in that scenario.
